The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) warned 10 telcos for not following new rules designed to protect customers struggling to pay their internet and phone bills.
Seven of Australia’s telcommunications service providers have paid a total of $82,200 in penalties for failing to comply with the Telecommunications (NBN Consumer Information) Industry Standard, with the telecommunications regulator issuing its first infringement notices since the rules came into force in September last year.
Australia’s telecommunications regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, is taking a heavy-handed approach to non-compliance with complaints-handling processes by telcos, with only 7 out of 41 telcos investigated found not to be in breach of the rules. And telcos who fail to carry out remediation directions issued by the ACMA face fines of up to $10 million.
